Water

  • Water, a precious resource
  • If all the water on earth represented 5 Litres - then fresh water would only represent 1 spoonful.

The mountains are the starting point of the earth’s water cycle.
Runoff water and snowmelt forms streams and rivers, which supply water all the way down the valleys to the ocean.
Polluting or wasting water in the mountains means jeopardizing the whole water life’s cycle.
  • The Eco Rider attitude:
  • In France only 50% of wastewater is purified
and this rate is even lower during the peak holiday season, when ski resorts are at their busiest.
Three quarters of marine pollution comes from mainland water.
In the mountains you’re at the start of the water cycle, surrounded by a fragile beautiful environment. Water is a precious resource, so let’s be responsible in our daily behaviour, by avoiding wasting and polluting our water sources.
    Think globally, Act locally!
  • Your every day act of green:

  • Save water:
    • Choose a
      shower
instead of a bath – you’ll use five times less water.
    • Watch out for leaks:
These represent 20% of your average daily consumption.
    • Turn off the tap
whilst washing your hands or cleaning your teeth. A running tap uses 6 to 10 Litres a minute!
    • Fill the sink
to do the washing up instead of leaving the tap running tap.
    • Use
      dual flush toilets
. Tip: Place a full bottle of water (or a household brick) in the reservoir to reduce the volume of water used each time you flush.
    • By using a
      water saving tap insert
you can reduce your consumption by up to 50%
    • Recuperate
      rainwater
for your garden and washing your car.

    Water pollution:
    • Our
      cleaning products
, paint, glue, mechanical oil, chemical products, pesticides, and heavy metals are
      all absorbed
by aquatic plants, fish, and subsequently by the rest of the food chain - including humans.
    • Use your local waste disposal site. 1 Litre of used oil = 10,000m squared of polluted water.
    • Use
      eco-label
cleaning products and/or products without phosphates.
    • Throw nothing down your toilet, with the exception of toilet roll.
